Teacher In-Service Professional Development Workshops

Through visual resources and techniques, teachers learn ways to enhance their visual arts classroom curricula. Teacher In-Service Professional Development Workshops assist teachers in aiding students to develop critical thinking skills and in understanding the creative process. Participants have the opportunity to develop their visual skills through interactive art making activities and slide presentations during the workshops.

Drawn into Art! A Visual Exploration of Media & Techniques
Friday, April 6 from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Robert Bean, Associate Professor of Fine Arts, Department of Education, Alabama A&M University, will lead us through an overview of drawing media, subject matter, and techniques. Explore line, shape, form, value, perspective, and composition through a variety of techniques. Teachers will learn ways to enhance their visual arts classroom curricula. Drawn into Art! A Visual Exploration of Media & Techniques workshop will assist teachers in aiding students to develop critical thinking skills and in the understanding of the creative process. Through a presentation of drawing media artwork, participants will have the opportunity to develop their own drawing skills as well as work in a variety of media (pen & ink, graphite and charcoal). Discover ways to solve drawing problems. Work with rhythm and movement to translate what you see onto paper. The workshop is presented in conjunction with the Visual Arts Achievement Program (March 11-March 18), Congressional Art Competition, and Youth Art Month (March 11-April 29) exhibitions.

Robert Bean’s Biography: B.F.A. from Mississippi State University and M.F. A. from Louisiana State University, Drawing and Painting. Mr. Bean taught classes in figure painting and drawing at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. He taught other classes in drawing, painting, and two-dimensional design. His works have been shown in group and solo exhibitions. He is currently teaching portrait, landscape, and still life painting and drawing classes and workshops at the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Museum Academy. He has a studio at Lowe Mill Arts & Entertainment Center.

Workshop will be held on Friday, April 6, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Museum Academy classrooms.  There is no fee for this workshop. Space is limited. Register Early! A workshop confirmation letter will be sent to you via email upon receipt of your registration. Parking:  The Museum is located at the corner of Church Street South and Williams Avenue.  We now have a parking lot at the corner of Church Street South and Williams Avenue. Workshop participants may also park in the parking deck across the street at the BB&T Bank building. Access to the parking deck is off of Williams Avenue on Fountain Circle.  Parking spaces are in a well-lit, covered environment.  The garage is attended during normal weekday business hours.  Parking fee is $4 for the entire day*.
