Families and children are invited to participate in a range of programs especially designed with younger visitors in mind. The Family Programs offer fun, interactive art making activities for families with children ages 3 and up that will sure to spark one’s creativity! Activities are recommended for children ages 3 and up. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The art activities program will be held in the Stender Family Interactive Galleries and is appropriate for the entire family.
ART LAB provides hands-on activities, which instruct on the basic elements of art. A Walk Through Time takes visitors on a journey through major events in art history and includes replicas of famous works of art.
June 15 – WHIMSICAL WIRE PORTRAITS Learn about different types of lines (curved, straight, jagged, zigzag, bumpy, wavy). Look for the artwork by Henri Matisse. Draw a whimsical portrait on paper and then outline with colored wire to create a three-dimensional work of art.
July 20 – IMPRESSIVE IMPRESSIONS Discover the art of the Impressionist artist Claude Monet. Create your own artwork using art tissue and colored pencil.
August 17 – SUNSATIONAL COLLAGES! Explore the art of Post-Impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh and produce a sunflower masterpiece of various colors of construction paper and glue.
*No session in September
In the Museum Academy – Art classes are offered weekdays and Saturdays for children ages 3 and up. No prior experience is necessary to enroll, and all materials are provided for the children’s classes. High School and adult art classes and workshops are also available.
