Shearwater Pottery:
Three Generations of Southern Masters
from the Hogan Collection
May 4 - July 13

In 1928, Shearwater Pottery was established on the Anderson family property in Ocean Springs, MS. Brothers Peter Walter and Jim Anderson formed the business, designing figurines, carving intricate outlines on pots and painting colorful patterns on plates. Today Peter’s children continue the legacy of Shearwater Pottery.

The exhibition includes 86 works by Peter and Jim Anderson decorated by Walter Anderson, Patricia Findeisen and Christopher Stebly, from the collection of Christopher & Kristen Hogan. Organized by the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, Ocean Springs, MS.

Buccellati Highlights
May 11 - February 1, 2009

A selection of works from the world-famous collection of Buccellati silver animals designed and fabricated in Italy by the luxury jewelry firm House of Buccellati.

The Huntsville Museum of Art is home of the world’s largest collection of Buccellati silver animals thanks to the generous donation and extraordinary vision of Mrs. Betty Grisham of Huntsville. These signature silver animals replicate creatures from earth, sea, and sky in a highly realistic manner that captures details such as feathers and hair in the fine detail and exquisite workmanship of silver.

Docent Tours

Learn more about the works on view in the exhibitions by taking a tour with a trained docent. Tours are free to members and included in general admission for non-members.

Please join us on Thursday evening's for the following docent-led tours:

May 15 at 7 pm – Shearwater Pottery: Three Generations of Southern Masters from
the Hogan Collection

Taking a tour with a trained docent enhances the Museum experience. A docent encourages visitors to ask and answer questions about the art on view. They also provide a great deal of background about the artists, the works, and the artistic movement to which the work belongs. A docent takes time to point out exciting facts about the work and helps the visitors observe, compare, interpret, and gives them the tools to evaluate the art on their own.

If you would like to schedule a tour for your group, please call Carolyn Faraci at 535-4350 ext. 223. A two-week notice is required.
