Encounters: Kathy Chan Encounters, the Museum’s long-standing showcase for outstanding regional contemporary art will feature the multi-faceted work of this distinctive Huntsville artist. The exhibition will emphasize Chan’s exquisite jewelry, comprised of precious metals, gemstones and pearls, and include examples of her painting and couture apparel. We Hate Jackson Pollock: Beyond Abstract Expressionism
On view through February 27, 2011 We don’t really hate Jackson Pollock, but the artists in this exhibition reacted against Abstract Expressionism, a movement embodied by Pollock’s work. Styles represented in the exhibition include Pop Art, Minimalism and Photo Realism. Organized by HMA. The Art of Yoga Registration now open! Art and Yoga collide at the Museum this fall! SEPTEMBER Vignettes The annual garden party event, Vignettes, hosted by the Museum Foundation Board has been moved to the early fall! Vignettes will be on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the beautiful home of Jean Templeton on historic Adams Street in downtown Huntsville. The event will feature ten works each by five talented artists from around the South. Guests will have a unique opportunity to purchase these works of art, while enjoying live music and savoring sumptuous food and drink in a stunning garden setting. A portion of the proceeds will be used to sponsor student scholarships to the Museum’s Art Academy. Artists: All paintings may be previewed at the Huntsville Museum of Art beginning August 24. Tickets are $75 per person and include heavy hors d'oeuvres and a complimentary bar. In the event of inclement weather, Vignettes will be moved to the Great Hall at the Museum. Creative Ways with Colored Clays Thursday September 9 – 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Learn about a variety of clays to create proper form, proportion, shape and balance of functional pots. This workshop is for the intermediate to advanced student. Explore the use of engobes and slips as well as other finishing techniques. Wheel throwing techniques will be utilized. Demos, a slide presentation, and critiques included. Guadalupe Lanning Robinson – “A great fascination with different colored clays and the textures that can be produced with stoneware has led me to experiment with and study clays for the past thirty years . . .
